Columbia Sportswear Boys' Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant (Little Big Kids)

Seems like a well made pant but the fit was off for us. My son is 13 years old and wears a 14-16. The XL was gigantic so I returned and ordered the Large. The Large was still too big so I returned and assumed the medium would be perfect. No way. Suddenly they are cut to fit the size the chart shows and the medium fit like the size 10 it says it would fit. Like an 8-10. In fact, the pants were made differently, too. The medium has an adjustable waist, unlike the large sizes. It seemed to us that the large fit like an XL and the XL fit like XXL and the medium seemed to fit true to size, which was way too small for us. Anyways, needless to say all three are being returned.

If you're buying for pocket features - don't buy. Amazon describes these shorts as having the following "multiple handy features: " (1) a single-zip closure security pocket - FACT CHECK: there were NO zip closure pockets; (2) side pockets with hook and loop closures - FACT CHECK: side pockets had NO closure at all; and (3) mesh pocket bags for ultimate efficiency and convenience - FACT CHECK: there was NO mesh on these shorts at all, let alone in the pockets. We bought these specifically for the pocket security features (for traveling), but turned out to be no better than less expensive convertible pants. Will return these and keep looking. See pictures of each of the 3 pockets on these pants. Also, there are no back pockets and size Medium is 10/12 (which seemed true to size).

Great hiking pants! My son used to wear his expensive Boy Scout pants on all outings. Thank goodness my friends told me about these. Color is acceptable and they are quick to dry. I love how there is Velcro on the bottom of the pant leg. I did not have to hem these. My son took these hiking in the Sierras for a week and they survived for more adventures! Already purchased more in different colors.

I'll start by saying that, in general, we love the quality of Columbia outerwear. We purchased these pants for two of our kids to wear as scout uniform pants. Ordinarily we buy zip-off, trail pants from LL Bean for this purpose, but their pants were on back order for months, so we decided to give these a try. Very disappointing. The pants are super thin/lightweight. That in itself would be okay as the kids could always wear long johns under them in colder weather, but the pants are never going to hold up to outdoor use by active kids. After one washing and zero wearings (on kids they are a bit loose on), the seams are stretching so that you can see light through the stitching. One camping trip with hiking, wood splitting, etc., and I know these pants will get trashed. Even still, for the price we might have made do for awhile, but the belt loops are so small that scout belts won't fit through them, so they can't be used as uniform pants as we intended. Unfortunately, my kids tried them on hastily, declared that they fit, and we didn't realize the other "issues" with the pants until they had already been washed for the first wearing. So I think we're stuck with them now, though I am going to look into returning them. Will update regarding the customer service piece of that.

The size charts are USELESS. I needed a size 5 for my little guy and ordered a small (which is pretty standard for EVERY OTHER style of kids clothing). When we got the pants, I noticed that the inside tag was labeled "S" and then there was a barely perceptible "8" underneath it. Needless to say, these pants are a size 8 for a small. Sending them back to get XXS in return. Please make an effort to update the sizing recommendations for this product.

I purchased these pants and also a pair from Union Bay (Convertible Union Bay Youth Boys Cargo Pants/Shorts.)The Columbias are VERY thin - like a light windbreaker material, but I don't think they would stop wind. As a matter of fact, they are see through. Plus, they have absolutely no give, so they aren't comfortable to move in, might alone hike. I returned and will buy more Union Bay (Much nicer quality and have stretch.)

Great pant for my 13 year old son. He's very slim about 90 lbs 5' tall. I ordered him a size large. They are a little loose on him - SO glad they have the adjustable waist inside. They washed up nicely - and I line dried them.

These pants are the best. They are lightweight and dry easily. My son wore them for a few days camping, with the legs attached and without. The legs are easily removable and just as easily reattached. We are pleased with these and purchased a second pair. The elastic waist adjustment is fantastic, I have a tall but skinny six year old, which makes finding pants that fit around the waist while being long enough difficult but these did the trick.

Compré los pantalones de la talla XS, para una niña de 5 años, y la verdad es que les están un poco grandes y bastante largos. He pensado este verano utilizarlos sólo como pantalón corto, y ya crecerá. Puede hacerse la cintura más pequeña con los botones. Por el precio que tienen están genial. Son cómodos y fresquitos. Ideales para senderismo. Yo tengo los mismos pero de mayor, claro está, y estoy muy contenta. No le pongo ningún pero. Tiempo de entrega rápido, y super bien de precio.

Yo tengo unos de la misma marca y de la misma tela y me parecen unos pantalones muy prácticos tanto para verano como para invierno. Para mi hijo de tres años de cintura le quedan bien ajustándola con la goma que trae, pero de largo le viene grande aun.

Adjustable elastics in waist, wider (bootcut style) pant legs, actual button for waist which is a little tough for younger kids, but great pants otherwise! My son loves them!
