So far so good
Very happy so far. Only time will tell. I have a 17" Epson printer, which makes great prints, but uses up a lot of ink. I was planning to buy a 24" or 44" Epson until I read the large Epson had a history of clogging up the printhead and being very expensive to repair, so I bought the Canon instead. Too soon to tell how it works out in the long run, but so far it's been producing excelling prints.

Quality Hardware For Maintaining Image Integrity
Been a Canon user for quite some time (1991 - original Eos Elan 35mm film camera). Had been a user for 6 plus years running a Canon imagePROGRAF IPF5000. Made the jump to the 6400 a month ago - business is going in a larger format direction. Mainly using Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique Roll Media (24" by 50'). Using Canon's Photoshop plug in for direct printing to the 6400; color correction by numerics (cmyk color values while image remains in rgb color space). Bottom line - blowing 200 plus mb images up to monster sizes maintaining image integrity, as well as color balance/neutrality is wonderful. Very happy with the purchase for large format fine art print production. Ink canisters come in 2 sizes, so inks have long lifespan. Great machine, happy to have in the studio for production!

Nightmare
Update Oct 20, 2016I replaced my Mac operating system with Sierra. I've spend hours today trying to print three prints. The first took perhaps five attempts, the second fifteen. It's taken about 2 hours to try to print the third. I called Canon Tech support. They inform me that the image prograf 6400 does work with Sierra and it may take a month or two for Canon to prepare a driver that works. So unless I want to spend hours printing a print, I need to wait a month or two. Really? Apple is the largest company in the world. It's platform is preferred by designers and artists. Image prograff is built for that community. My $100 Canon printer works fine with Sierra, so Canon obviously knows how to build a driver that works. This is ridiculous. The printer itself does exceptional prints. There's no denying that. Truly beautiful. When you can get it working. Mine came with a defective print head, a problem which took weeks and repeated service technician visits to diagnose and then fix. Now the problem is paper handling. Changing paper types often takes half an hour going around and around in circles. The software that came with the printer was outdated -- it doesn't work with recent MAC operating systems. Hours of troubleshooting, hours on the phone with Canon, and they determine that they need to send a technician out to fix the machine. They say that the technician will call me the next day. No call. I call Canon again, and they say the technician will arrive this morning. No technician. Canon says the technician does not have a phone number that they can call, but after repeated calls say he will arrive this afternoon. He thinks. He's not sure. Maybe. In addition, the vendor of the printer, pcrush-outlet, indicates free delivery but what they don't say is that the printer weighs 240 lbs and they deliver just to the curb. You need to have movers or other manpower waiting there for the FedEx freight delivery. Which is fine, they just need to make that clear.UpdateAfter a year and a half, I've had to replace 2 print heads. The printer came with a defective printhead -- after two visits, the technician figured that out, and replaced it -- the second just now. At a cost of $500 each, that seems excessive. I use the printer once or twice a week.If I had to do it again, I would purchase an Epson.Update after three months:After three months, my main challenges are paper handling. Changing paper types often takes half an hour.> Open the roll cover. (It is open)> Remove the roll. (It is removed)> Open the roll cover. (It is still open)This goes on repeatedly.Would I buy it again? I'm an artist, and it does beautiful prints, and has already paid for itself. But the software running it is defective and results in hours of frustration, not only for the purchaser, but for the Canon technicians. It is unnecessary.

Both prints look amazing and are true to color
we bought this printer for our small business grapic arts business...we do reproductions of1800s artwork. I did a lot or research to find a printer that would be able to print our products in a professional way. This machine lives up to all of our expectations. We print on a 240gsm satin paper and rolled canvas. Both prints look amazing and are true to color....very satisfied with the results as are our customers.Th printer does a good job at ink management....the starter tanks hae 90 ml each and we were able to print about 100 18x24 to 24x36 prints. We work in photoshop doing our retouching and preparing our images for output....the priter manages thecolor management. As one person stated the printer software looks a bit dated, but it works just fine and I have no issue with it...kind of a windows xp look. It does the job very well...just not flashy gui. Look at buying this printer from lexjet.com....about $2000 with free shipping. ...and great customer support! We are very happy with Matthew. A standard roll of paper is 100ft and we get about 30 24x36 prints.....canvas comes in 40ft rollsPrice to print a 24x36 is about $5 in ink per print for full color print. It has 12 colors of ink so you do not use all of one color at once....it seems to use a lot of the grey color though...first to run out. A full set of canon 130ml inks will cost you about 900$....ouch! WE have used some from inkowl here on amazon with good results....no issues and colors seem ok....$450 a set. No refill kits that I have found. There is a learning curve to using this printer....if you do not have many photoshop skills and solid graphic processing/image printing knowledge....it will be a learning curve. It took about 2 hrs to set up and get printing. in our work space we ran a 25ft usb printer cord from the computer to the printer and that works just fine....we do not have a networked system as of yet. The time to print a full 24x36 is aobut 5-7 minutes...not bad.It is a big footprint so you will need some space to print. Look at a squae trade warranty on this item for about $300 for 3 years...might be worth it.It is a two man lift to carry it into the office. The box isis about 3ft x5ft and it comes on a pallet.Over all we are very happy with it and I would buy it again...great professional prints.
