relive your favorite food moments from books
These are creative and beautiful photographs of noteworthy meals from famous books. I love leafing through it. It's a nice medium size--not overly large like a cocktail table book.

Great book for classic book lovers
Bought for a gift. So this is sort of a 2nd hand review. Recipient really enjoys the book, mostly due to the fact she has read almost every book featured. She thinks it's a great idea for a book

A Very Different Book
The book is not only charming and unique, it is evidence of Dinah Fried's creativity and talent. I have kept the book on my coffee table, bought a couple of extra copies because everyone who sees the book, wants to own it. I am happy to gift my special friends, but to the others I give directions to the neartest bookstore. I hope Dinah is working on another unique piece for us...Ag Herman

Clever concept, but execution could be better
I wish Amazon offered the option of half stars as I would have given this a 3 1/2 star rating. I absolutely loved the concept of the book, the selection of stories, the fun tips/facts, and the excerpts, but admit I was a bit disappointed by the actual execution of the photos. For starters, I was definitely expecting this to be a full-size book for displaying on a coffee table or the like. It's actually small--about the size of a paperback novel. I could forgive that, but honestly, the photos also feel a bit dull--they lack the vibrancy and style I typically expect from modern day food photography.I'm a food blogger and writer, so I spend much of my days reading blogs and cookbooks; I felt like most of these photos didn't really measure up to the quality of work that is available out there. The styling and colors were a bit retro and simple, which worked for some pictures, but not others (especially the ones that were meant to show abundance or wealth). There was no excitement in the photos--fine for the bowl of gruel in Oliver Twist, but certainly not what I'd expect from some of the other books. Most bothersome was the way that the photos didn't always match the descriptions. The bright yellow American cheese in Holden Caulfield's Swiss cheese sandwich was an obvious discrepancy. I have no idea what the dish in the American Psycho picture was meant to be.It reminds me a little bit of that disappointment you get when a movie based on a book doesn't quite live up to the original words.

Great idea, skimpy book.
I love the idea for this book, but there is just a photo and bit of info about each reference and dish. Perhaps I should have read the details more carefully, but I was expecting recipes with each dish. I planned to use the to make literary dishes for my book club. This is just an ok photo book. It's clear the author is passionate and that's a great, but I wish there was more to the book. If there's another edition, perhaps the author can post recipes on a website.

The PERFECT gift book
This book fills a hole in the universe that we didn't even know was there. The ideal gift for book lovers, food lovers, design lovers, or just about anyone. My personal faves are the pictures for Catcher in the Rye, Blueberries for Sal, and On The Road. Oh, and Swann's Way! And Heidi! The list goes on and on. I'm recommending this book to everybody.

Pure Genius!
Dinah Fried is a literary Wes Anderson sharing her dynamic and unique perspective to serve up some of fiction's greatest meals to the reader. An appetizing and intriguing work this is a must buy for anyone who cares about literature, food and/or design. I for one cannot wait for the sequel!John RudikoffBoston, MA

It's a great project and for me it was quite fun to re-read the snippets from the different books, imagine the dishes, the set up and the scene and then see how Dinah presented it.

meraviglioso
Un grazioso libro da avere nella propria libreria. Mi servirà per la mia tesi di laurea; le immagini sono meravigliose, curate come tutta l'impaginazione del libro.
